Your love for animals can continue making a difference for years to come.

By including Friends United in Rescue (FUR) in your estate plan, you create a lasting legacy that helps provide care, shelter, and second chances to vulnerable animals in need.

A charitable bequest is one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to support FUR’s mission while maintaining complete control of your assets during your lifetime.

We encourage all donors to consult with their attorney, tax advisor, or estate planning professional when preparing or updating estate documents.

Ways to Leave a Bequest

Specific Cash Bequest

A specific bequest designates a fixed dollar amount to FUR.

Sample Language:

“I give and bequeath to Friends United in Rescue, Inc. (FUR), a California nonprofit public benefit corporation (EIN 83-4050988), the sum of $__________ to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

Specific Property or Stock Bequest

You may leave real estate, securities, or other personal property.

Sample Language:

“I give and bequeath to Friends United in Rescue, Inc. (FUR), a California nonprofit public benefit corporation (EIN 83-4050988), the following property: ____________________________ , to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

Residual Bequest

A residual bequest directs all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate to FUR after other gifts, expenses, and obligations have been satisfied.

Sample Language:

“I give and bequeath to Friends United in Rescue, Inc. (FUR), a California nonprofit public benefit corporation (EIN 83-4050988), _____% (or all) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

Contingent Bequest

A contingent bequest allows FUR to receive a gift only if a named beneficiary does not survive you.

Sample Language:

“If ____________________ does not survive me, I give and bequeath the share that would otherwise pass to that beneficiary to Friends United in Rescue, Inc. (FUR), a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

Charitable Remainder Gift

A charitable remainder trust can provide income to loved ones during their lifetimes, with the remaining assets benefiting FUR upon their passing.

Sample Language:

“Upon the death of ____________________ , the Trustee shall distribute the remaining principal and income of the trust to Friends United in Rescue, Inc. (FUR), a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, to be used in such manner as its Board of Directors determines in furtherance of its charitable mission.”

Bequest for a Designated Purpose

You may direct your gift toward a particular area of FUR’s mission, such as medical care, spay/neuter programs, foster support, or emergency rescue efforts.

Sample Language:

“I give and bequeath to Friends United in Rescue, Inc. (FUR), a California nonprofit public benefit corporation (EIN 83-4050988), the sum of $__________ (or the following property: ____________________ ) to be used for the following purpose:  __________________________________________________ .

If, in the judgment of the Board of Directors, it becomes impossible, impracticable, or inadvisable to carry out the designated purpose, the Board may apply the gift to a purpose that most closely fulfills my original intent.”
